St. Clare’s Closet (SCC) is looking to employ an experienced Seamstress to repair, alter, and construct garments (primarily bridal and formal) according to customers' needs. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to scheduling clients by phone and e-mail, determining necessary alterations for clients at their fittings, preparing work orders according to the SCC pricing system, collecting payments, updating SCC order list, performing simple to complex alterations and repairs, and building custom garments. 

 

To be successful as a SCC Seamstress, you should demonstrate sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques including rolled hems, bustles, and tailoring garments to fit correctly throughout. Candidates must also be competent in using sewing equipment. Ultimately, an outstanding Seamstress should be able to achieve exceptional customer service and ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.

 

Seamstress Responsibilities:

  • Accurately measuring customers using tape measures to ensure proper fit of garments.

  • Ensuring that sewing machines and other equipment are in good working order.

  • Altering clothing without compromising the original look of the garment inside or out.

  • Fitting garments on customers to determine how the alterations should be done.

  • Constructing garments and other articles according to customers’ specifications and preferences.

  • Filling out work orders, tagging garments, and updating the SCC work order spreadsheet.

  • Communicating with clients over the phone, e-mail, and other online platforms to answer their questions and schedule appointments.

  • Clean up the office at the end of the day and as needed to ensure a safe working environment for our staff and a comfortable experience for our clients.

 

Seamstress Requirements:

  • Proven sewing experience.

  • Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.

  • The ability to work under time constraints.

  • The ability to safely use different types of sewing machines.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Willing to learn new techniques 

  • Willing to perform alterations according to SCC standards.

Compensation:

  • Dependent upon qualifications

  • Looking for full-time but will consider part-time
